NEW CLEAT RULE ANNOUNCEMENT

All molded soccer cleat designs (excluding soft ground molded designs) are now allowed during play at Break Away Sports Center, Inc.

Soft ground long studded cleats, metal cleats, screw-in's and non-soccer cleats (football, baseball, track, etc.) are not allowed. We continue to recommend round cleats and turf shoes while avoiding flat bottom court shoes.

Our change in policy is due to current research with the improved technology of artificial turf that allows for better cleat release. This research finds no evidence in differences in cleated shoes during play.

  • SYSTEMATIC REVIEW ARTICLE, BIOMECHANICS Rev Bras Med Esporte 25 (3)•May-Jun2019 “The findings of the articles included in this review indicate that the use of boots with blade-shaped studs does not result in greater mechanical overload on soccer players during runs with or without change of direction or in landing situations. To date, there is no evidence in the scientific literature that contraindicate wearing boots with blade-shaped studs to prevent injuries related to mechanical overload in soccer movements.”

  • SOCCER INJURIES IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS Silva DCF, Santos R, Vilas-Boas JP, et al. Appl Bionics Biomech. 2017;2017:130547, Influence of cleats-surface interaction on the performance and risk of injury in soccer: a systematic review. “…The most recent third generation of artificial turf has longer grass-like fibers embedded in granules of sand, rubber, and/or silica and more closely mimics natural grass. Several recent studies reveal no difference in injury rates during games played on grass or turf.”

  • FIELDTURF Better than our competitors turf, New generation turf from FieldTurf at Break Away Sports was manufactured with more space between fibers. This allows a cleated shoe to get into infill while allowing quicker release within the infill reducing a “frozen” foot while stepping laterally or rotating. Contrary to our competitors infill of recycled tires, our EPDM infill continually rebounds from compression minimizing the increase compaction that creates the gripping of the cleat which causes some injuries. Our Warranty specifically states, “Standard molded soccer… cleats are recommended.”

ALL MOLDED SOCCER CLEATS ARE NOW LEGAL
(ALONG WITH TURF SHOES & FLATS)

METAL CLEATS, SCREW-IN CLEATS, & NON-SOCCER CLEATS ARE PROHIBITED
