Soccer Round Tables

Breakaway Sports Center and Meriter Sports Medicine are excited to offer Soccer Round Tables. These Round Tables are a forum for presentations and discussions on interesting and important soccer topics. These presentations are designed to share up-to-date information and opinions on current best practices and opportunities in soccer. Special program topics include: Nutrition and young athletes; Specialization in training; Summer Camps; the Try-out process; and common Injuries and Injury Prevention

These programs are free, however, registration is required.

Girls in competition
Meriter Sports Medicine Department's experts will lead presentations on common injuries, injury prevention, proper nutrition and introductory developmental aspects for girls in competitive programs.

* This program has an associated Scramble style tournament, in which players are assigned new team-mates and opponents every mini-game in a 4 vs. 4 street soccer tournament style, no goalies. Players get a chance to meet and play with many like-minded girl soccer players. Separate registration is required. Fee for the Soccer Scramble is $25.

Parent/coach Workshop: Integrating fun games into practices
This timely workshop will help beginning or experienced coaches integrate fun and different activities, games and challenges into practice. Ideally suited for U-7 through U-12 team coaches, this workshop will bring enjoyment to your players, and kindle the passion for the beautiful game. Conducted by a National Youth Instructor and facilitator. Participants should dress for activity and be prepared to play.

Adolescent Nutrition
Break Away Sports Center and Meriter Sports Medicine Department are offering insightful presentation and discussion on Good Nutrition for young athletes. Points to be discussed include: Water vs. Gatorade, calorie consumption in an athlete, muscles and bones, and weight management.

Specialization: When is the right time?
A provocative presentation and discussion about getting more out of soccer and what are appropriate expectations. Points of consideration include: Nurturing the player's enjoyment; digging deeper in skills; getting more out of the practice; Overtraining injuries; in-season training programs; Core, balance & agility programs.

Summer Camps and Programs: What's out there?
This round table will provide informative presentations on the importance role of off-season training programs and camps in a player's soccer education, what to look for in a quality camp, specialty camps and value. Information from camp providers will be available.

Competitive Team Try-outs: Benefits and Pitfalls
This presentation will provide information and insight into the try-out process for parents with children going through the try-out process.

* This program has an associated Try-out Workshop, in which players go through an actual simulated try-out with evaluators from around the area. Players get a chance to meet reduce stress levels regarding the try-out process and meet like-minded soccer players. Separate registration is required. Fee for the Tryout workshop is $25.
